For now, however, I think I'm going to be putting it on the back-burner. It does a lot of things right, and it's definitely a major improvement over the original. (The fact that the AI is allowed to colonize inside my space * at all* - at least sans a declaration of war - irritates me in the first place, but it would be at least tolerable if we played by the same rules!) Dan can say the AI "doesn't cheat" all he likes, but honestly I'm not sure that's even true by the letter of the law, much less the spirit. That it automatically knows where all the good planets are, and can shoot down my colony ships in its space without declaring war (but not vice-versa) irritates me to no end. Honestly, there have been some that I have just felt stupid trying to play. On the other, a lot of reviews and forum posts still mention major bugs and Im somewhat disinclined to support it due to the creators reputation. In addition, the fact that the AI cheats plays by different rules is also something of a turn-off. On one hand the improvements sound intriguing. That sort of behavior really breaks immersion for me, which is a pity given the atmosphere/immersion is done so well in other areas of the game. ![]() Even on Easy difficulty, it seems like all the AI-controlled races are all purposefully gunning for me (solely because I'm the human player, not because I'm the most powerful empire), and that's simply not fun. I like most of the mechanics, I enjoy most of the gameplay.but the "all war, all the time" thing is not for me. If you find that I broke something in your saved games, please upload it somewhere so I can grab it and see what went wrong. It is my goal in 2021 to release a total remaster of StarDrive 2, and this is a juicy update on the Road to Remaster (tm). But to complain about it in public? I guess it's free marketing and attention, Brigador-style. But yeah, the people who have 200k to invest would prefer the barrier of entry was 200k. Some communities prefer to use the Community Portal instead for wiki discussions its up to you. That reduces the value of social networking skills and increases the value of actual creative, artistic and technical skills. Welcome to the StarDrive Wiki forum This forum can be used by members of this community to discuss topics related to their wiki. It actually has to be something the market wants. There is just no free money from releasing games anymore. With the free access to quality engines, easy access to contractors via the net and low barrier of entry on storefronts, it's never been a better time to be an indie developer. But some people (and that's not this guy, but a general trend) seem to think they should be able to fund their multi-person indie studies (which are often just a group of friends of extremely varying talent) releasing really generic platformers, puzzle games or artsy bullshit games. ![]() If a good rpg or strategy game comes out on Steam, it will sell shitloads - and I'm sure there are other starved niches. I plan to get 2, but only at the next big. Ask about StarDrive 2 Discuss your gaming experiences. But I am tired of the "hidden gem" bullshit myth that has been repeated over and over by bitter indie developers. Re: StarDrive 2 Stardrive 1 was a fun, if flawed, game and I was also disappointed by its abandomnent. Sure there is a lot of games on Steam, and for most people the majority is unappealing crap. He sounds a lot like bands who blame record labels, radio stations and the internet for their lack of commercial success. Running a tech and/or entertainment start-up requires a good number of the following: Insane hours (which I don't doubt he put in), luck, talent, ruthlessness, exploiting other people, rich friends, existing wealth. That's not how it works apart from brief "gold rush" periods. Being an indie start-up is not a way to get a steady and secure income. He says he doesn't blame Steam, but then goes on to say it destroyed indie game development.
